Environmentally-friendly flights
Novair aircraft are very modern as they have as minimal a negative impact on the environment as today’s technology allows. Furthermore, our charter flights are almost without exception direct flights, and with a seat occupancy rate of 98 percent emissions per passenger are minimized.
Reduce emissions
Planes are just like cars in the sense that the way they are operated affects the usage of fuel and thereby also the amount of emissions produced. We are the first to provide environmentally-friendly flights. This entails that we, for instance, fly at slower speeds in order to minimize air pressure, in particular on landings. On a flight from Sweden to southern Europe the additional time involved is only a few minutes. To Greece the flight only takes six to seven minutes longer and to The Canaries only ten minutes longer. These changes mean we save from 150 to 300 kilos of fuel per flight.
Fuel-usage efficiency
We are also striving for fuel-usage efficiency with the assistance of an advanced flight route planning system which helps us, among other things, to find flight routes with the most optimal winds possible which would allow for minimizing fuel usage. Optimal fuel usage also means that we do not fill the planes’ tanks with more fuel than is deemed by the regulations and safety rules. We do what we can to keep the weight of the plane low. In addition, we continuously train our pilots in how to fly according to optimal fuel usage.
EcoFly Sweden
We also collaborate with SAS and Luftfartsverket - the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority in a project called EcoFly Sweden which began in 2007. The purpose of the project is to minimize carbon dioxide emissions in Swedish airspace by 10,000 tonnes per year. This can be achieved by greener flights and by straightening out the flight routes so that we can fly more directly to our destinations.
Decreasing fuel consumption has a concrete environment impact. It is calculated that one kilo of saved fuel entails a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions of 3,16 kilos. The environmentally-friendly measures that Novair has taken on as of 2007 save at least 300 kilos of fuel per flight. This amounts to around 1, 000 tonnes per year, which means that in one year, with these measures, we have decreased our carbon dioxide emissions by some three percent.
Through a number of such measures implemented on our already modern planes we intend to decrease our emissions by an additional three percent in 2009. Thus, our goal is to reduce our total emissions by 6 percent in the period of 2007 - 2009.
