Remember to book assistance through your tour operator if you need help being lifted on board.

Wheelchairs

If you need to bring a wheelchair with you it is important to specify what type of wheelchair it is. Is it a manual chair or an electrically powered one? Wheelchairs can be taken on board free of charge regardless of the type of chair.

Manual wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are checked in as ordinary baggage and you will be provided with a wheelchair by the airport to take you to the plane. In some cases it is possible to use one’s own wheelchair right up to the plane door. Contact your airport of departure for further information.

Electrically-powered wheelchairs
Due to restrictions of weight and space, we can only take a limited number of electrically powered wheelchairs on board. Your tour operator has to make an advance booking with us for the wheelchair, specifying the type and size of the chair. The wheelchair has to be equipped with a dry cell or gel battery, and needs to comply with the following specifications:

  • The battery has to be properly fastened to the wheelchair
  •  The battery has to be disconnected and properly isolated in order to prevent short-circuiting.

The following batteries are not allowed:

  • Lithium batteries – these can emit a toxic gas if damaged.
  • Acid batteries – due to the risk of leakage.
